JAKARTA, Fraksigerindra.id — Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida congratulated Prabowo Subianto on being elected as the President of Indonesia in the 2024 presidential election.
Kishida conveyed his congratulations to Prabowo via a phone call on Thursday (March 21) at 14:30 (WIB) for approximately 10 minutes. In addition to the phone call, the congratulations were also expressed through an official letter.
“Allow me to extend my heartfelt congratulations on Your Excellency’s election as the President in this election,” Kishida wrote in his letter.
He stated that Japan and Indonesia are important partners who share the same principles and fundamental values, and have a historical relationship in various fields such as politics, economy, and culture.
Kishida also expressed his anticipation to work together with Prabowo through bilateral cooperation in various areas including security and defense as well as cooperation in addressing regional and international situations amidst the complexities of the international environment.
“I pray from the bottom of my heart that Your Excellency remains healthy and increasingly successful, and that the people of Indonesia become more prosperous,” said Kishida.
Prabowo expressed his gratitude for the congratulations from Kishida. He also stated that Japan has been a long-time friend and a very important partner for Indonesia. Both agreed to work together on various issues to further enhance the relationship between the two countries.
“It is an honor for me to receive congratulations on the victory in the 2024 Election from Prime Minister of Japan, His Excellency Fumio Kishida @kishida230,” wrote Prabowo on his X account.
“Japan has always been a strategic partner for Indonesia and we are committed to continuing this cooperation for the progress of both countries,” he added.
The General Election Commission (KPU) of Indonesia has declared the presidential and vice-presidential candidates Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winners over the other two pairs on March 20, 2024.
KPU announced that Prabowo-Gibran won with 96,214,691 votes, while the pair Anies-Muhaimin Iskandar obtained 40,971,906 votes, and the presidential candidate number 03, Ganjar-Mahfud MD received 27,040,878 votes.
