Prabowo Subianto Attends the 72nd Anniversary of Kopassus, Welcomed by Thunderous Applause

Jakarta — Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto attended the 72nd anniversary ceremony of the Kopassus at the Kopassus Headquarters Field in Cijantung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/4).

Prabowo arrived at 08:00 WIB dressed in a grey suit and wearing a red beret. He then quickly entered the Kopassus Field and took his seat in the prepared area.

Under the theme ‘Serving with Honor, True Guardians of Sovereignty,’ the 72nd anniversary event of Kopassus commenced with a ceremony and a variety of performances from the ranks of the Kopassus troops.

The event started with a report from the parade commander, the singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya,” followed by the “Mars Komando” song, and displays of tactical vehicles.

The event also featured a slideshow of photos of past Kopassus commanders. When Prabowo, the 15th commander, was mentioned, the audience erupted in applause.

General Agus Subiyanto, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, in his speech stated that the prowess of Kopassus, a pride of Indonesia and respected by special forces worldwide, was not easily achieved.

This reputation is the result of hard work, total commitment, and high integrity, exemplified by former members of the Red Beret Corps, including Prabowo Subianto, who served as the 15th commander of the Red Beret Corps from 1995-1998.

“On this auspicious occasion, I also express my respect and pride for all the veteran elders who have made Kopassus formidable as it is today,” stated General Agus Subiyanto.

Looking forward, Kopassus is expected to make breakthroughs in the form of adoption, innovation, and the engineering of cutting-edge technology by leveraging the global defense industry while steadfastly promoting independence through the strengthening of the domestic defense industry to achieve the ideal posture of Kopassus.

“Once again, I wish the Special Forces Command a happy anniversary, daring to be true, succeed, better to return with honor than fail in the field of battle. Commando!,” concluded the speech of the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces.
