Prabowo Calls for Honest Leadership in Muslim Nations to Combat Poverty and Inequality

During the opening of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) in Jakarta, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of clean governance and honest leadership to uplift Muslim-majority nations from poverty and other global challenges. Prabowo highlighted the need for Islamic nations to play a more active role in global affairs to create a just and prosperous world. He pointed out that poverty, corruption, lack of education access, and mismanagement of resources are key issues that need to be addressed internally for progress to occur. The theme of this year’s PUIC, “Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience,” was commended by Prabowo as a timely and crucial focus. He stressed that without strong and accountable governance, no nation can be competitive or resilient. Prabowo also reminded participants of the historic achievements of Islamic civilization, citing exemplary leaders like Umar ibn al-Khattab and Mehmed the Conqueror, who prioritized the welfare of their people. Additionally, he reiterated Indonesia’s support for Palestine and urged Muslim nations to take concrete actions to end the suffering of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need to move beyond discussions to real, impactful initiatives. Indonesia, according to Prabowo, will always stand with Palestine in their quest for justice and freedom.
