Prabowo Halts SOE Commissioner Bonuses: Impact on People

President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated his commitment to reforming Indonesia’s state-owned enterprises (SOEs) by eliminating the practice of giving bonuses, known as tantiem, to SOE commissioners. He emphasized this during a keynote speech at the Apkasi Otonomi Expo 2025 at ICE BSD in Tangerang. Prabowo pointed out that many SOE assets had been mismanaged and scattered for years. By consolidating these assets under Danantara, Indonesia has now established a significant presence in global finance, with a sovereign fund ranking fifth globally, after Norway, China, and Abu Dhabi. However, Prabowo criticized the practice of awarding bonuses to SOE commissioners, even when companies were facing losses, calling it fundamentally unfair. He stressed the importance of removing these bonuses as part of a broader reform agenda to promote integrity and professionalism within state-owned companies. Prabowo made it clear that those who oppose these reforms are not welcome, as there are many young individuals ready to take on the responsibility.
