JAKARTA, Fraksigerindra.id — President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who has officially been declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election, received a congratulatory phone call from President of the United States (US) Joe Biden on Friday (22/3) evening WIB.
“Mr. President-elect, I want to call you Mr. President-elect,” Biden said to Prabowo.
In the approximately five-minute conversation, Prabowo expressed that it was a great honor for him to speak directly with Biden over the phone.
“Mr. President, it is an honor to speak with you,” Prabowo said.
Biden expressed his happiness in seeing Prabowo’s achievement in the 2024 presidential election and congratulated him on the accomplishment.
He also stated that Indonesia and the US could expand cooperation in various fields such as trade, investment, health, human rights respect, and clean energy transition.
“We want to be partners,” Biden said.
In response, Prabowo said he would strive to enhance friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and the US. He also expressed his admiration for Biden.
“I am a big admirer of you, Sir. I have been following your achievements for a long time,” Prabowo said.
Biden responded by saying that Indonesia and the US have a shared responsibility, especially in the Pacific region, and he wants to remain friendly with Prabowo.
“We have a shared responsibility, especially in the Pacific region. So, I really, really want to be close with you,” Biden said.
The General Election Commission (KPU) has declared the number 2 pair of Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the winners of the 2024 presidential election with a total of 96,214,691 votes or 58.58% of the 164,227,475 valid votes.
The results were announced on Wednesday (20/3) after the KPU conducted a national-level recapitulation in 38 provinces and overseas election districts.
