Calling Russia a ‘Good Friend,’ Prabowo Subianto Highlights Russia’s Role in Supporting Indonesia’s Military

Moscow – Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto referred to Russia as a ‘good friend’ and expressed his desire to continue fostering a strong relationship.

“It should be remembered that Russia has helped us (Indonesia) in many aspects when we were in difficulty. Russia helped us during those times,” Prabowo stated while meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday (31/7).

He added that Russia has also supported Indonesia in building its defense and military strength. As the defense minister, Prabowo emphasized the strong cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.

“I am here to stress that this relationship will continue when I officially assume the presidency of Indonesia on October 20,” he continued.

Furthermore, Prabowo mentioned that he has been engaged in intensive communication and discussions with Putin’s team, particularly concerning the defense industry.

“I have also met with senior officials in your industry, in the defense industry, and have been discussing intensively over the past few months about a roadmap to enhance cooperation between us (Indonesia) and Russia,” Prabowo concluded.
