President Prabowo Subianto has laid out his commitment to guiding Indonesia’s state budget (APBN) towards achieving a zero-deficit position. During his address on the 2026 State Budget Bill at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, he emphasized the government’s target of Rp 3,786.5 trillion in state spending and Rp 3,147.7 trillion in projected revenue. The fiscal deficit is aimed at Rp 638.8 trillion, equivalent to 2.48% of GDP, and will be funded through prudent and sustainable means.
Prabowo expressed his administration’s dedication to implementing efficiency measures to reduce the deficit as much as possible. He aspires to eventually announce a state budget with no deficit in the future, possibly by 2027 or 2028. The president called for the courage to eliminate budgetary leakages and sought the support of all political forces in Indonesia.
In addition to scaling up creative financing, Prabowo emphasized the importance of reducing dependency on the APBN for development funding. The budget should be flexible to cushion global shocks, maintain credibility through revenue optimization, improved spending quality, and financing innovation. Measures will be taken to boost tax revenues, protect the investment climate, provide targeted fiscal incentives to support strategic economic activities, and manage natural resources efficiently for the people’s prosperity.
Prabowo’s vision includes utilizing state assets effectively to generate value and contribute to the welfare of the people. The management of resources will be strengthened to ensure maximum benefits for the country. The president’s commitment to eliminating the state budget deficit reflects a strategic approach towards financial sustainability and economic prosperity for Indonesia.
