Jakarta – President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, received a call from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday (1/5). During the call, Justin congratulated Prabowo and discussed the continuation of Canada-Indonesia cooperation.

“I am very pleased to congratulate you on your strong victory in the massive election. I am extremely delighted,” said Justin.

Prabowo appreciated Justin’s congratulations and expressed his admiration for Pierre Trudeau, Justin’s father, and Justin’s current leadership.

“Thank you, sir. It’s an honor for me to receive your call directly. I have always admired your father and you, your leadership, and I look forward to working with you,” Prabowo replied.

Justin and Prabowo also discussed various matters of mutual interest to enhance bilateral relations between Canada and Indonesia, especially given their strong economic ties.

Both reaffirmed their support for the ongoing negotiations around the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and they look forward to the Canadian Trade Mission to Indonesia at the end of this year.

Prabowo and Justin also talked about the continuation of Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy, including opportunities to cooperate in the vital minerals sector.

“Trudeau hopes to further strengthen the partnership between Canada and Indonesia after President-elect Prabowo Subianto begins his term in October,” according to the Canadian Prime Minister’s office.
